Over the many years I've been around many practitioners: Acupuncturists,  EFT Practitioners, Classical Homeopaths and Naturopaths to name a few.

While the techniques and methods they use with their clients might be differ, I often hear one common problem said in different ways:

"I don't know how to market my practice"

"I'm not good at promoting myself"

"I just don't feel confident to build my practice"

While I completely understand these thoughts and have been there myself, I actually believe Practitioners are naturally good marketers.

Let me clarify. They are naturally good, at what I call "Relationship-Marketing."

What does that mean?

Marketing that is based on building and fostering relationships with your potential clients, current clients and other professionals that can help grow your business.

Here's the 3 Traits that Practitioners have that make them excellent "Relationship-Marketers."

1. Connection
Practitioners value connection- with their clients and other professionals. They enjoy fostering a sense of connection in their work. In Relationship-Marketing, we approach our marketing strategies from a place of 'how can I foster connection with my target market?' In this way, your target market feels this connection and reaches out to you.

2. Communication
Because complementary modalities require practitioners to spend time getting to know their clients in their work together, Practitioners develop excellent communication skills. This is the opposite to pushy marketing techniques that leave a bad taste in the potential clients mouth! Instead, in successful marketing strategies, we come from the approach of deeply listening to our clients needs and creating solutions to address their challenges.

3. Service
Over the last 20 years of being around Acupuncturists, Naturopaths, Classical Homeopaths, or EFT/MTT Practitioners, I've noticed that the common denominator is the desire to serve. This is paramount with Relationship Marketing. The approach is "How can I use my unique talents and skills to serve others?" And in coming from this approach it is a win-win situation as the Practitioner desires to market so he or she can reach and serve more people.

Isn't this encouraging to know? You are a natural marketer!

Most likely, you just haven't been shown how to market in an authentic way by an expert who understands the holistic field.

But you CAN find an authentic way to promote what you do in a way that feels natural to both you and your clients.

And you and your practice will thrive.

Does any of these sound familiar?

"I'm afraid of putting myself out there"
"I hate asking for money for my sessions"
"I want to start charging my clients more"
"How can I get clients when I'm on a budget?"

If you're nodding your head, don't worry you're not alone. Practitioners ask me all the time what I do to get clients.

They also wonder how to overcome the many fears, doubts and limiting beliefs they have around themselves as a Practitioner and the abiliity to really have a practice.
I'm so glad they ask because I used to struggle when it came to getting clients consistently and was so stuck by my own limiting beliefs, lack of confidence and sabatoge habits!

One of the biggest challenges for Holistic Practitioners is answering the question, "So, what do you do?"

Practitioners tell me they feel nervous with this question. They tell me they feel uncertain of how to answer.

I tell these Practitioners, there is a clear way to find out if they are 'getting' what you do. I ask them:

"When you tell people what you do, do they ask for your business card or more information?"

"Do they nod their head because they get what you do or do their eyes glaze over?"

Often they tell me that they see a look of confusion in the persons eyes. Oh-no! That is definately the result we don't want!

The problem is that Practitioners often describe what they do by:

- Sharing their title (I'm an acupuncturist, EFT Practitioner or Hynotherapist, etc)
- The process or technique they use (ie: "I do a tapping technique")
- Or in language that people aren't familiar with (meredian therapy, balancing energy, etc.)

This all confuses the listener. A confused mind rarely asks for more information or your business card!

It's important to focus on the results you provide.

Results get attention, paint a clear picture of what you do and will prompt potential clients to say, "That's what I need or I know someone who needs that, can I get your information?"

It's your Marketing Message.

This communicates the result folks get when working with you.

One great way to test the effectiveness of your Marketing Message is to ask a friend/family member to ask you that question, "So what do you do?" When you tell them ask them after:

1. Was it clear what result a client would have working with me?
2. Did you get what I do?
3. Would you be able to describe what I do (remember: the result) to someone else?

If the answer is "NO" to any of the questions, chances are you are missing opportunities to work with potential clients. You can begin by writing down the results clients get with working with you.

Crafting your Marketing Message is not rocket science, but it is a skill. Remember, if it's not clear don't beat yourself up! Most of us were never taught how to craft our Marketing Message.

But by getting clear on the results you provide you'll communicate what you do in a clear concise way that will bring you new clients, get more referrals and have people saying:

"That's exactly what I need (have been looking for).. can I get your business card?"
